Footwear Focus with Erik: Adieu Paris

Most people know we like to curate our shoe selection so that we offer something unexpected, extravagant and just different. Shoes you didn’t know existed, which stray far from the path you’re comfortable with but might want to try on or hold in your hands at least once or just the plain weird ones. Our love affair with the adidas’, Nike’s and Karhu’s of the world meant we mostly focused on the sneaker part of the footwear world.

Erik Adieu 01

As an avid sneaker collector myself this is a bit to be expected. But gradually, through the years, we’ve welcomed other styles of footwear to Calico Jack; boots, boat shoes, desert boots, etc. Styles which equally fit with what we envision Calico Jack to be, the subcultures we find interesting and the stories we like to tell.

Erik Adieu 03

So it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise (also because Rolph’s been teasing this brand for around 8 months now) we’re branching out again. Introducing Adieu Paris, a Paris-based footwear brand creating minimal and sophisticated shoes with a very contemporary aesthetic. The brand caught our attention in early 2018, the Creeper-like silhouette (thick soles) with a very 80s British mod-vibe. British subcultures have always interested us immensely, whether it’s football or music or fashion. Adieu Paris stuck in our heads so we booked an appointment at the Paris Fashion Week. We met with one of the founders, Isabelle Guédon, and her enthusiasm and passion immediately floored us. We had to tell her story!

Erik Adieu 02

Life partners Benjamin Caron and Isabelle founded Adieu Paris in 2012. It’s philosophy is based upon Benjamins' longtime interest in British 70s and 80s punk and rock subcultures and Isabelle’s design expertise (having worked as Alber Elbaz’ right hand at Guy Laroche and Yves Saint Laurent). The Creeper silhouette with graphic welt detailing and rubber crepe soles are crafted expertly and with precision. You immediately spot this is something different than your average dress shoe. We’re inviting to you stop by and at least pick them up and hold them in your hands. Spot the detailing, feel the leather, experience something different.
