Calico Jack's Eredivisie Team Of The Year
By our intern and young football coach Joep.
1. Remko Pasveer
Remko is already 37 years old, but he seems to be getting better every year. He has the most clean sheets in the Eredivisie (12 out of 30), reached the KNVB cup final this year and earned a transfer to Ajax. Remko is the reliable closing post that our team needs.
2. Devyne Rensch
One of the new gems from the Ajax youth academy. Since the departure of Sergino Dest to Barca, Devyne's a regular starter on the right back position. Left his competitors; Mazraoui and Klaiber behind, and as cherry on top of his strong season, he scored his second goal of the season in their championship match.
3. Richedly Bazoer
Bazoer is a player that never got off his stamp as talent, he is a tough guy to work with (a rough diamond some might say). Managed by Thomas Letsch, Bazoer finally developed into a mature and reliable player in the center of the defense from the Arnhemmers this year.
4. Daley Blind
Since his return from The Red devils to Ajax, Daley has been a very important man in the center of the team. He isn’t an eye-catching football player, but he plays very solid and is rarely caught on a mistake.
5. Philipp Max
The German wingback made a surprising transfer from Ausburg to PSV last summer, in Eindhoven he had to resolve the problem PSV had on the left back position. Almost at the end of the season, we can say that he has completed this challenging problem, he was involved in no less than 13 goals made by PSV this season.
6. Teun Koopmeiners
The AZ captain is having a very strong season. Teun is a real box-to-box player and is now involved by 20 goals in his total of 29 games for the side of Alkmaar.
8. Ryan Gravenberch
Just like his midfield partner Teun, the kind of box-to-box type. Ryan is only 18 years old and has a bright future ahead of him. Will his top season be rewarded with a place in the European Championship selection, or does he have to report duty for the Dutch U21 side?
10. Davy Klaassen
Just like Steven Berghuis, not really successful abroad, but since his return to Ajax he is an important catalyst between the youngsters of Ajax. This season he fulfilled the "number 10" position" and he has been involved in 15 goals this Eredivisie season.
7. Steven Berghuis
A driven and competitive player, who has been among the absolute top of players in the Eredivisie for years. Indispensable for Dick Advocaat's side and since the start of Dick’s era at Feyenoord Steven is also crowned as captain. Is Steven going to make a last top transfer to a bigger league or is the Eredivisie his max?
9. Giorgos Giakoumakis
Our local pride, Greek god Giakoumakis. Last weekend he reached an amount of 25 scored goals, that’s a new record for VVV-Venlo. He also seems to be on his way to become the first winner of the Willy van de Kuijlen trophy. Can he protect VVV from relegation back to the second division?
11. Dusan Tadic (C)
Dusan has the honour to represents two of our teams, he also found himself a spot in our Europa League team of the season. Just not 1 on 1 in terms of matches and goal contributions, Dusan is the captain of the champions of the Netherlands, so we had to include him.
Erik ten Hag (Manager)
In a season where, one player is a suspect in a serious crime, the keeper is suspended for a year due to the use of prohibited substances and the top purchase is forgotten to be included on the list for their European cup run, Erik made sure to keep the peace on the field and it resulted in a championship.
The strong Argentinian has been associated with a transfer to various European top leagues since his arrival at Feyenoord. This year again he is having a strong season and couldn’t be missed in our team.
Last year he was being labelled as not good enough on the left back position ánd as a bad buy. How different its been this season, excelling both in the center of the defense and as central mid. Oliver has the ability to outbreak the defense of the opponent with one “simple pass”.
Adam is the type of eternal talent; he has never been fully able to fulfill his promising talent. but this season he is an important catalyst in the midfield of Utrecht with his graceful playing style he has already been named "Man Of The Match" 6 times.
Educated by the PSV youth academy and only 25 years old he found in Heracles already his 9th club. As a “number 10” in Almelo involved with 22 scored goals. One of the surprises of this season and perhaps after just one season at Heracles he already is going to make a step to a bigger side.
At the start of the season Cody began very well and seemed to be on his way to the main Dutch side, however he got injured and the season for Cody seemed to be over. But he made a quick recovery and on March 14 he made his first minutes on the field. Now Cody is already back on track and is contributing to secure the second spot with PSV.
