Calico Jack Fest introduces: Ray Fuego, The Black Skinhead.

Dutch hiphop-punk phenomenon Ray Fuego is an anarchic force to be reckoned with.

Ray Fuego

Covered in tattoos, a daring clothing style matching his personality and a cult following rivalling religious leaders. Ray Fuego is the unconventional superstar many parents get warned about. However, he is a better role model than you might think at first glance. The 22 year old artist is not afraid to speak on tough subjects such as racism, the school system (or systems of power in general) and other things that tick him off. This behaviour causes for a lot of commentary but Ray doesn’t give a fuck about your opinion, he only cares about you and your future.

Born in the Bijlmer area of Amsterdam, Ray Fuego is a true Amsterdam native. Coming from one of the most well known “hoods” of the Netherlands, Fuego and his distinct style of dressing didn’t always sit right with other Bijlmer residents. The thoughts and actions of others however, never stopped Ray from doing anything. In his life there is no higher authority than his highest self. Ray once said in an interview: “You can’t control the problems that are outside of yourself, you can only control your own output to the world”.

With statements such as these he tries to convey a way of thinking to his followers that values growth, acceptance and the bettering of the future. However, this loving message might seem farfetched when you visit one of his shows and are met by his wild energy and the even wilder moshpits that fill the room. Yet those mosh pits are the growing process. They are the moments that the youth, lost and frustrated, can find each other and vent together. One bloody nose at a time, Ray Fuego will make the world a better place.
