Calico Jack welcomes keyboard player Niels Broos and drummer Jamie Peet: two creative minds who both have their own sound and style. This crazy duo can be seen as influencers of a modern wave combining improvisation, jazz, hip-hop and analog electronica.

They started playing together since 2014. Three years later they started performing on stage which was a pretty damn success. In a matter of months, they started getting acknowledgment at bigger festivals like Transition Festival and Mondriaan festival. Their performances are entirely based on improvisation using classic analog approaches, similar to New York’s duo Taylor McFerrin and Marcus Gilmore. But with a contemporary twist of east-coast electronics that is less urban in sound. The duo reminds the fans of groups like Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and Autechre by building up daring improvisations with endless counts of tension. This is the sound of Dutch underground music. The sound of today.

Niels Broos produces a sound that contains elements of Thelonious Monk, Robert Glasper, Jasper Linder, Coltraine, Dilla and FlyLo, you can even find some Radiohead or Robert Johnson in there. Besides when he’s being busy guiding the Kyteman Orchestra, Jameszoo or Daedelus. He also launches his own EP’s with labels like Brainfeeder and Alpha Pup.

Jamie Peet is a young daring drummer from Amsterdam. His style and play remind you of icons like Chris Dave and Questlove in their old days. Peet has already toured with some great artists like Gregory Porter and pianist Kris Bowers. Jamie’s already kicking it as the most requested drummer in the Netherlands. That’s not a surprise as he has performed alongside Gregory Porter, pianist Kris Bowers and Ramon Valle, Dominic J. Marshal, saxophonist Lars Dietrich and many more.
